Nokia Independent Artists Club

Awfully delayed post. Many more awfully delayed posts to come :( Let’s hope that my memory is still good enough to remember what happened that day. :P

Nokia IAC event.

So there we were. DGMB gang at another outing, our 3rd outing together, I think.

Half of the DGMB gang was there: Randy, Stanley, Joshua, Hwei Ming, David, Yatz, Nadia and Thomas.

Rest: Robb (hiding behind Stanley), Simon, Logic Yuan, David Lai (alakazam!) and the two cute looking girls there. Chung Lern was kind enough to be the one behind the camera.

This event is (somewhat) a showcase of independent artists in Malaysia getting together in hopes to promote local dudes and dudettes to support the Malaysia local music scene. There were quite a number of bands/artists played that day, some notable ones like Pete Teo, Point Blanc, NickyC.

A few of us met up earlier at KLCC then proceeded to Zouk around 2.30PM.

The entrance was supposed to close at 3PM, but we finally got in at nearly 4PM. Malaysian timing eh?

Even the tiger came, yet we are still waiting. We would be dead by now if a real tiger came. *roar*

So while waiting for other people who are waiting for other people, some couldn’t resist the urge of taking photos.

Some even wanted to be taken! Heck, look at Thomas!

Go go Captain Planet! (ok lame. i know.)

Okay back to topic.

There were a few stages: Rock, Hip-hop and Acoustic.

To me, rock was, very melayuish. Black metal and that kinda stuff. Only Chung Lern was happily standing in front of the stage watching rock bands play. Not really my thing. Even for others they also felt the same thing, so we left when the first song was about to finish.

But not all thought of it that way. Chung Lern for example:

“Black Metal is the bomb man!”

=_=”

Moving on.

The Hip-hop one was, somewhat in the mix? A dash of chinese, a dash of malays and a few drops of indians. But the Hip-hip stage didn’t have much people watching compared to the Rock stage. The initial performances were so so. The schedule for the whole event was made is such way that the much more established artists played last. Maybe to keep the crowd until the end I suppose.

The last stage, Acoustic, was way more interesting. Workshops by Alda Tan (on bass) and Pete (on songwriting) kept me to the seat for a longer period, even though I don’t play any musical instruments, not anymore anyway. Maybe I got a thing for acoustics. Hmm. That explains my music collection.

Overall the event was okay, and I think the acoustics stage did the best job and performances. Even the crowd were still coming in to watch and listen at 7-8PM. Just before the event ended, David Lian, the organiser of the event, approached us and offered us a quick bite before going back.

We were each given a VIP pass (wee!) to entered The Loft, for makan.

Food there was actually quite good! Didn’t really expected a club could have good food.

We were all superly exhausted anyway, so we’ll eat anything. :P

Nokia-IAC-094

Hmm.

Unfortunately, that all my brain can remember.. I did a lot of stage hopping to cover the event, but nothing really kept me staying for long, except for acoustics. So that means pictures!

Chung Lern standing in white, and I don’t know the one with the thumbs up.

David Lai is spectacular. When we were all bored, he’d start doing magic tricks for us to see.

Chung Lern was also interviewed, but kinda flopped. “I don’t know what’s going on!”. Dudeeee you missed your chance to be on TV!! >_<”

Joshua, David Lian, Randy.
